Description

Nero's ideal home

Nero needs a very particular, quiet and structured home with no other pets or children in the household. He has a training program he will need to continue at home, and adopters who are committed to working with him. Nero will need multiple visits and a "hands off" approach whilst building a bond.

Could you be Nero's perfect match?

Nero originally resided across the sea at our Dublin centre so he's had rather a long stay with Dogs Trust. When he's familiar with his handlers, he will run to greet them in the morning and is very calm and relaxed. He loves to be out exercising, peeing on everything and doing his best to get treats from people. Nero is rather confident around other dogs for such a little chap, and has even been on group walks with Mastiffs and Greyhounds! Due to his behaviours in the home though he will need to be the only pet. Nero is not a lap dog and will object to being handled unnecessarily. He will growl and snap at strangers if they try to touch him, so his new family must be mindful of this when out with him. At home, Nero may initiate some contact, but if he doesn't then he should be left alone. He has also shown some guarding behaviours in the past, mainly his bed and food, but all dogs should be left alone when eating anyway. Nero has shown aggression when people have left the room before, and we advise to use a baby gate in his new home. The centre's training team have implemented a program for him to follow, and his adopters will receive full support once they have taken Nero home, as his training will be ongoing. He is also on a grooming and muzzle program as this needs development also.

Yorkie Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Yorkshire Terrier.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 6 months, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
